Medical Donations

Since 2003, SCF has obtained donations of FJ$120 million (US$54 million) in pharmaceuticals, medical equipment and supplies for local hospitals as well as for Fiji Pharmaceuticals & Biomedical Services to distribute throughout the entire country. In addition, we have purchased more than FJ$175,000 in pharmaceuticals for local hospitals, in cases when they weren’t available from government sources.

A large portion of pharmaceutical donations obtained by SCF come through Direct Relief, our primary partner in the United States. In addition, we receive donations from pharmaceutical manufacturers, non-profit foundations and other entities around the world, which Direct Relief stores for us, and palletizes for shipment to Fiji when needed.

  • Four times every year, we are offered large quantities of essential meds. These are sent via Fiji Airways, directly from Los Angeles to Nadi, and then trucked to Suva (the capital) and distributed to hospitals throughout Fiji by Fiji Pharmaceuticals & Biomedical Services.  Distribution goes to all 220 hospitals, medical centers and nursing stations throughout Fiji
  • At least four times a year we send 20- to 40-foot containers loaded with donations for Fiji Pharmaceuticals & Biomedical Services (FPBS) and medical locations throughout Fiji..
  • In addition, we have procured medical equipment and pharmaceuticals on an emergency basis, e.g., for cancer patients and other specialty meds.
  • We are constantly coordinating with hospitals around the world to obtain donations of their equipment that is being replaced, e.g., hospital beds, sterilizers, ecg machines, ultrasound equipment, etc.
