Cyclone Relief

SCF has provided immediate relief from a dozen cyclones over the past 20 years, mostly in the form of food and water, tents and shelter, and followed up with rebuilding materials and carpenters to do repairs.

We are quite pleased to coordinate with the Fijian government and Direct Relief to arrange donations of emergency medicines and supplies in the aftermath of Tropical Cyclones. Santa Barbara-based Direct Relief, one of the largest donor charities in the world, has donated hundreds of pallets of meds (e.g., pharmaceuticals, IV-fluids, surgical supplies, wound-care), all shipped to Fiji as soon as possible after cyclones hit. Direct Relief and Barebones Living have also donated  high-wind resistant tents, heavy-duty cots and hundreds of solar lights for use in villages that have been devastated.  Total donations amount to many dozens of millions of dollars.

In addition, we coordinate with Direct Relief to pre-position relief supplies  in Fiji prior to the cyclones hitting. These annual supply shipments total in excess of $20,000 for each shipment.
