Eye Clinics

SCF holds annual eye clinics in Savusavu. Clinics range from simple eye exam tests to eyeglass matching, cataract and other eye surgeries, and complex prosthetic eye replacement surgeries. To date, we have conducted more than 1,000 sight-saving surgeries (e.g., cataract removal).

Donated Eye Glasses

For many years, SCF has solicited donations of used prescription eye glasses, including readers and sunglasses. When glasses are donated, we run them through a Nikon refractometer to determine the specific strength by eye, and attach that calculation to each pair. We maintain an inventory of more than 10,000 pairs, all sorted by strength. When doctors determine a patient’s needs, we can go to the box with that strength and find the pair that best fits (both size and prescription-wise), with a bit of flexibility for desired style. We have completed more than 8,000 eye exams, resulting in provision of more than 6,000 pairs of prescription eye glasses, all at no cost to patients.
