Cyclone Relief

SCF has provided immediate relief from a dozen cyclones over the past 15 years, mostly in the form of food and water, tents and shelter, and followed up with rebuilding materials and carpenters to do repairs.

We are quite pleased to have coordinated with the Fijian government and Direct Relief to help arrange a donation of emergency medicines and supplies in the aftermath of Tropical Cyclone Winston, which pummeled Fiji in 2016. Santa Barbara-based Direct Relief, one of the largest donor charities in the world, donated 24 pallets of meds (e.g., pharmaceuticals, IV-fluids, surgical supplies, wound-care), which were shipped to Fiji as soon as possible. Direct Relief and Barebones also donated a shipment of high-wind resistant tents, heavy-duty cots and hundreds of solar lights for use in villages that were devastated.

This was on top of pre-positioned relief supply that was already present in Fiji prior to the cyclone hitting. Direct Relief has donated more than $500,000 in meds and supplies in response to the cyclone.
