Water Filtration Projects

Most villages obtain their water from nearby rivers and streams, which are often polluted, muddy or contain diseases such as Typhoid. SCF has made a considerable effort to help villages have cleaner water.

In 2011, SCF financed the majority of the construction of a water filtration system installed at Nanuca village. Thanks to the Savusavu Rotary for coordination of the project.

From 2014 through 2017, SCF began distributing individual water filters throughout Savusavu and Vanua Levu. Most of the filters are going to the villages with the most need, with problematic water supplies, and also to hospitals that need purer water. Our goal is to make sure that every home in Savusavu is equipped with water purification devices.

This effort takes small steps at a time, as considerable coordination is required with local government officials, as well as Fiji’s Ministry of Health
